Change your email or username
How email change confirmation works + what happens to old profile URLs after a username change.
Change your email address
- Go to Settings → Account (that screen is still being built; until it lands, write to info@soundassist.online and we do it for you).
- Enter your new email address.
- Click Send confirmation.
Two emails go out:
- To your new address: a confirmation link. Click it to finalise the change. Your email isn't updated until you click.
- To your current address: a notice that a change was requested. This is the account-takeover safeguard; if an attacker tried to hijack your account, your original mailbox sees the attempt.
If you never click the link, nothing changes. The unconfirmed new address expires on its own.
What if I lost access to my current email?
Email info@soundassist.online from the address you'd like to receive mail at + a description of the issue. We'll manually verify your identity (usually via a track-upload date or a billing detail) before changing the email server-side.
This is awkward on purpose: automated email-change-without- old-access is a classic account-takeover vector. Manual review is slower but safer.
Change your username
- Go to Settings → Account.
- Enter your new username.
- Click Save.
The change is immediate. Your address updates:
- Old:
app.soundassist.online/p/<old-username> - New:
app.soundassist.online/p/<new-username>
What happens to old URLs?
Old URLs stop working immediately. Anyone clicking a link to
your old /p/<old-username> gets a 404. We don't currently
redirect yet; it is on the list, not built.
This means:
- Old social-media links to your profile break.
- Old SoundAssist links shared in chats / emails break.
- The old username becomes available for someone else to claim after a 30-day cooldown.
Username rules
- 3-30 characters
- Lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens
- Can't start or end with a hyphen
- Reserved words (
admin, api, support, soundassist, etc.) are blocked - Must be unique across all accounts
How often can I change?
5 changes per day. After that the rate limit kicks in. The point isn't to lock you out; it's to stop a fuzzer / automation from churning through usernames trying to brand-squat.
What stays the same
Your tracks, folders, comments, messages and follower-relations all stay tied to your account, not to your username. Renaming yourself loses no data.
The old username gets released back into the available pool after a cooldown (currently 30 days, may change). You can't claim it again immediately after releasing it; that prevents "reserve a name forever by cycling between it and a placeholder."
Tips before you change
- Tell your collaborators if you have ongoing folder shares
with people who know you by your old username; the folder
membership is by account-id (it survives) but if someone
bookmarked your
/p/<old>page they'll need a new link. - Update your social profiles that link to your SoundAssist page.
- If the new username is for branding (label rename, project renamed) consider whether you want a fresh ACCOUNT instead. That preserves the old account + its address as a kind of archive. Write to info@soundassist.online if that's the route you want; there is no "duplicate to new account" flow yet.
